Passengers up 5% in June

East Midlands Airport reported a rise in passengers. The airport's latest figures, released today, show 563,150 people passed thought the terminal in June - a 5% increase on the same month last year.
Non-EU destinations saw the biggest increases, up 17%. The airport says that the growth suggests holidaymakers are heading for bargain holidays in countries outside the euro zone, such as Turkey.
Penny Coates, the airport's managing director, said: ‘We're delighted to have exceeded half a million passengers for the second month in a row and to have enjoyed growth in passenger figures for the ninth successive quarter.'
The airport also celebrated the announcement of three new routes with Ryanair this month, with flights to Faro, Fuerteventura and Prague starting at the end of October 2008.
