East Midlands to retain air ambulance
24.10.07
An air ambulance service for Leicestershire and Derbyshire will continue to operate from East Midlands Airport from April, officials have announced. Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance will operate the helicopter, but £300,000 must be raised by the end of March to support the service.
It had been announced the current air ambulance service, operated by West Midlands Ambulance, would be moved to the West Midlands in March - which would increase response times. However a new service, to be known as the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, will launch in April when the current helicopter moves. Using an Augusta 109 helicopter, it will carry at least one doctor in addition to the paramedics.
