Passengers at East Midlands Airport increased by 15.4% in January compared to the same month last year. 340,069 passengers passed through the hub, compared to 293,786 in 2006. The increase follows the trend of higher passenger numbers in 2007, which saw an annual increase of 14.5%.
Penny Coates, Managing Director at East Midlands Airport, said: ‘We are pleased to report another successful month of passenger growth. This is a tremendous start to the year and we are hopeful that the momentum will continue through 2008’.
The airport started 2008 by adding to its long haul portfolio, with the introduction of flight to Goa with First Choice Holidays; the airport's first Indian Ocean destination. The airline launched the new earlier this month as a 3 month programme for winter 2008, and has announced that it will operate the route for a full season for winter 2008/09 starting November 4.
The airport also gained services to popular European destinations during the month, including Cologne with bmi regional, Palma with easyJet and Warsaw with bmibaby.
