Traffic warning for passengers this weekend
21.09.07
Passengers travelling to or from East Midlands Airport this weekend are being warned to allow plenty of extra time for their journey, as thousands of motorbike enthusiasts travel to the British Superbike Championships to be held at the adjoining Donnington Park.
Major roads and motorways leading to this venue are likely to be busier than normal from today (Friday) until Sunday (September 23), with the final day of the race meeting particularly busy in the morning as spectators arrive and in the late afternoon as they leave.
The police will implement a traffic management system over the weekend in an attempt to minimise delays. The plan is designed to make it easier for spectators to get into and out of Donington Park, and to reduce delays experienced by passengers travelling to or from the airport.
The traffic plan means that on Sunday passengers travelling to the airport by road from the South west, M1 and A50 will be directed onto A453 west to Pegasus roundabout. In addition, access to East Midlands Airport from Melbourne Village along Melbourne Lane will follow a diversion route via Wilson and Breedon.
