Jet2 launch flights
20.05.10
Jet2 has opened a new base at East Midlands Airport with its first flight taking off to the Cypriot resort of Paphos. The airline will also fly to Lanzarote, Tenerife, Dalaman, Corfu, Crete and Sharm El Sheikh, and said the new operation will create 250 jobs, including 80 at the airport.
Its new routes will offer over 130,000 seats a year from the airport. Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2, said the move would provide ‘substantial employment opportunities’. The airline will initially base one plane at the airport, with nine flights each week to the seven destinations, but an extra plane will fly from the East Midlands starting in the summer of 2011.
Jet2 plans to offer flights to Chambery in France and Geneva in Switzerland over the winter. New destinations for 2011 will include Alicante and Palma, Faro, Bodrum and Rhodes. It will offer 22 weekly departures from East MIdlands Airport by next summer.
