5th annual Big Green Week held
19.10.11
East Midlands Airport has held its 5th annual Big Green Week, which celebrated the environmental projects delivered in the last 12 months and educates on future plans. During the week employees held a 'carbon war', competing to win the title of the greenest team and took part in daily events to learn about the effects of climate change.
The airport is keen to promote environmental projects to meet its commitment for its ground operations to be carbon neutral by 2012. The week allowed managers to tell staff and business partners how they can reduce energy consumption, create renewable energy and be more sustainable both at home and at work.
During the week employees were involved in a number of activities including travel makeovers, which highlighted sustainable travel options available to staff, saving them time and money, whilst reducing carbon emissions. It also included ‘Tea at the Turbines’, an event featuring tea, scones and tours of the first commercial scale wind turbines at a UK airport.
