Knife missed in hand luggage
19.09.08
A passenger accidentally smuggled a knife on to a holiday flight from East Midlands Airport - despite twice being scanned by security, the Sun reports. Sarah Hopkins, 45, from Solihull, realised she had left the 3 inch bladed kitchen knife in her hand luggage as she boarded the Ryanair flight to Tenerife.
She told the newspaper: ‘I went through the detector twice. They frisked me and made me take off my shoes. Security were asking me to empty bottles of liquid but they still didn’t find the knife. It’s unbelievable.’
G4S, which operates security screening at East Midlands Airport, said: ‘We take any alleged breaches of security very seriously.’
