East Midlands Airport's Community and Environment Investment Report reveals that the number of complaints received by the hub dropped from 7,978 in 2006 to 7,128 in 2007, a decrease of over 10 percent. And nearly 9 out of every 10 complaints reported were from just 13 people.
The report reveals that month with the highest number of complaints in 2007 was September with 1056 followed by 909 in August. The lowest number of complaints - 264 - was received in December. The majority of the complaints, 5535, related to aircraft noise, followed 829 for low flying aircraft.
Thirteen people were responsible for 6,314 - or 89% - of all of the complaints. However, the number of different people complaining dropped from 580 to 295.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘We log, investigate and respond by letter to every complaint, and in some cases we visit the person. The feedback has sometimes helped us change the way aircraft operate. We are pleased with the reduction in the number of complaints and complainants.’
