New traffic surveillance system installed

East Midlands Airport is to install a traffic surveillance and monitoring system, Era Corporation has announced. The MSS system is a 'wide area multilateration and ADS-B surveillance solution'. It will provide enhanced surveillance information for the airport's environmental management program, with the option of extending its use to support air traffic control operations, both on the surface and in the approach area.
The airport has a strong track record of environmental responsibility, having become the first in the UK to be certified to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 in 2002 and recently being named the 'World's Leading Eco Friendly Airport'.
Jon Cox, Air Traffic Services Manager, East Midlands Airport, said that this latest project continues the airport's commitment to strong environmental management.He said: 'Era provides airport environment management solutions to many of the USA's largest airports, including in Atlanta, New York, Dallas and Washington as well as Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports.'
