Light aircraft problem closes airport
18.06.10
Flights at East Midlands Airport were disrupted for over two hours yesterday after a tyre burst on a light aircraft as it landed, causing the runway to be blocked. 12 inbound flights were diverted to Birmingham Airport and one to Leeds Bradford while engineers replaced the wheel on the aircraft to allow it to be moved.
The incident happened just after 14:00 and also led to delays to outbound flights. The runway was cleared at 16:20. Flights affected were two from Palma and one each from Nantes, Faro, Jersey, Guernsey, Arrecife, Brussels, Kos, Alicante, Venice, Barcelona and Fuerteventura.
