easyJet still selling cancelled flights
15.09.09
People flying to or from East Midlands Airport with easyJet from next January are being urged to exercise caution when booking flights. The budget airline announced that it would close its base and axe all flights from early next year, but because of employment law regulations, it is still selling tickets for well beyond that period – and will have to continue doing so for several weeks.
Because easyJet's plans are subject to a 90-day consultation period – intended to protect the 120 staff who face redundancy - the rules of the consultation period state that nothing can be done to prejudice negotiations, and that includes cancelling flights. While the airline is unlikely to change its decision, and will stop all flights from the airport from January 10 next year, this means passengers will only be told about the cancellations in December, as little as four weeks before their flight.
