Environmental report released
14.07.10
East Midlands is the greenest UK airport according to an annual environmental report published this week, the Burton Mail reports. During the last year, the airport recycled 645 tonnes, or 84 per cent, of its waste - more than any other UK airport. It also became the first UK airport to plant a tree farm to provide renewable fuel to heat and cool its terminal.
Other environmentally friendly initiatives include launching a shuttle-bus powered by biofuel to ferry passengers to and from the planes, and a 59 percent reduction in noise-related complaints. Penny Coates, the airport's managing director, said: ‘The community and environment investment report demonstrates our broad programme of work and longstanding commitment to our local community and to the environment.’
