Cargo flight emergency
12.01.11
A cargo plane aborted its landing at East Midlands Airport and diverted to another airport on Monday night following technical problem, the Nottingham Post reports. An Airbus A300 plane operated on behalf of TNT Express flying in from Belfast had difficulties at 21:20 when a warning light came on in the cockpit suggesting a problem with one of its engines.
A spokesman said: ‘The pilot aborted the landing as a safety precaution. The plane came into momentary contact with the runway before ascending again and diverting to Stansted Airport. The decision to divert was made due to crosswinds of 20 knots at East Midlands Airport and, in the circumstances, it was thought safer to divert to Stansted where weather conditions were much calmer.’
The plane landed safely at Stansted Airport at 22:15. The Air Atlanta Airbus A300, being operated on behalf of TNT Airways, is at Stansted receiving an inspection by engineers.
