15 percent increase in bus passengers

East Midlands Airport's Skylink bus service has seen a 15 percent increase in passengers in the past year, helping the hub to reduce its carbon footprint. More than 1.3 million passengers travelled to or from the airport by bus in the year to March, up from 1.15 million in the previous 12 months.
Compared to single occupancy car travel, the increased usage would have saved 1800 of carbon dioxide emissions. This is similar to the emissions created by around 1500 homes in a year.
Kelly McHugh, Skylink manager at East Midlands Airport, said: 'Our 24-hour operation and 30 minute daytime frequency is helping to drive this impressive passenger growth. Passengers are increasingly using public transport to travel to East Midlands Airport.'
‘Our greatest achievement has been a 22 percent increase on the Derby and Loughborough Skylink, which has recently moved to a 24-hour service. We have also seen many more families using the services, after the introduction of our £10 family return ticket.’
