Ryanair announce East Midlands - Alicante flights

Ryanair is setting up its 21st base in Alicante, Spain. Europe's biggest budget airline announced today that it will initially base two Boeing 737-800s, representing a US$140m investment, and launch 11 new routes, including flights from East Midlands Airport.
The airline already operates 6 routes from Alicante - to Dublin, Duesseldorf, Liverpool, Stansted, Pisa, and Stockholm. It will add another 1 routes from November, meaning that the airline's 21st hub will launch with 17 routes.
The new routes, which will take off in November, include flights to East Midlands (4 flights a week), Robin Hood (3 flights a week) and Bournemouth airports (3 flights a week) in the UK, along with routes from Baden Baden, Basel, Billund, Brussels, Gothenburg, Maastricht, Milan and Paris.
Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, said: 'Today's new base announcement will treble [Ryanair's] passenger numbers [at the airport] to 1.5 million annually, sustaining 1,500 local jobs. To celebrate these 11 new routes, Ryanair is giving away 100,000 seats from just €10 one way.'
