1000 jobs on offer at the airport

Around 1000 jobs need to be filled in and around East Midlands Airport this year, the Leicester Mercury reports. The jobs range from catering to aircraft engineering and management roles, with the airport working with more than 100 companies in Castle Donington and the Jobcentre Plus service to set up a job club to help fill the positions.
Dawn Price, East Midlands Airport's employment manager, said: 'There is a huge variety of jobs. Recruitment is going on for roles ranging from management to cleaners. Around half of the jobs are in passenger services and the other half are in the cargo side of operations around the airport.'
Since January, about 200 jobs have been filled in catering, baggage handling, security, hospitality, customer services and cleaning. In the next 3 months, 50 further roles on the passenger side at the airport are set to be created, plus around 100 jobs in distribution. The airport is also linking with Derby College to set up an apprenticeship scheme for aircraft maintenance engineers. There will be places for a dozen apprenticeships.
Last year, East Midlands Airport's employment network helped fill 800 vacancies. Ms Price expects that this figure will be closer to 1000 this year. The first meeting of the new jobs club will take place at the airport's training rooms on May 29.
