Police seek witnesses to airport shop robbery
09.04.10
Police are calling for witnesses after a male worker required treatment for facial injuries after being assaulted during a robbery at an East Midlands Airport shop. Two men threatened workers at the shop in the departure area and demanded cash just after 04:00 on 1 April, then escaped with a quantity of cash.
A 56-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail. Police officers want to trace the driver of dark car which forced its way through the exit barrier at the airport just after 04:00 on that day. They have also called for anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.
Det Sgt Wayne Simmons said: ‘Although it was early in the morning, the airport was busy with passengers going off on their Easter break, and with friends and family seeing them off.’ Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS 924 Wayne Simmons on Leicester (0116) 222 2222.
