Airport parking company fined £20,000

A company that promised secure airport parking but left cars in the open was fined £20,000 yesterday. Loughborough Magistrates Court heard Prestige Parking charged passengers at East Midlands Airport extra to leave cars in its secure indoor compound. However, many of the cars were in fact left outdoors and in one case a £30,000 Jaguar was wrecked while being moved from a car park.
Officers from Leicestershire Trading Standards carried out an investigation after receiving complaints. The investigation included an undercover operation that involved three vehicles being booked for indoor parking. In the event, two cars were parked outside. Prestige were also found to be displaying the nationally recognised Park Mark logo at their airport car park, when they had lost their right to do so.
The company and boss Kawaljeet Singh Mangat pleaded guilty to 8 charges under the Trade Descriptions Act. They were fined a total of £20,000, and ordered to pay costs of £2,239.
