Football supporters upset after Ryanair axe Madrid flights

Liverpool fans are 'seeing red' after cheap flights they had booked from East Midlands Airport to Madrid were cancelled, the Echo reports. The supporters bought flights to Spain for the game against Athletic Madrid on October 22 moments after the Champions League draw was announced, with some picking up flights between £1 - £15.
However, Ryanair announced last week that it has cancelled all flights from East Midlands to Madrid this winter, so the fans will have to book flights from other airports with prices now over £100.
A spokeswoman for the airline insisted the changes were part of Ryanair’s winter review and flights on the route were set to end on October 1. The budget airline denied the cancellations were an attempt to charge higher prices on its other routes to Madrid. As is its normal practice, it is refunding the cost of the cheap flights, and has refused to re-route disappointed supporters.
Aviation watchdog the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) criticised Ryanair for ‘poor practice over the cancellations’, but conceded they were operating legally, the newspaper adds.
