06.11.07
The largest plane ever built landed at East Midlands Airport yesterday morning and will remain at least until today.
About 20 plane spotters watched from the airport's aeropark as the giant Antonov 225 landed. Weighing 640 tonnes without payload, the aircraft has a wingspan of 290ft and is 59ft high. It can carry 250,000 kg of weight.
The flight was commissioned to deliver a generator to the airport by international couriers DHL and is being refuelled and prepared for an onward flight. It is expected to remain at the airport for at least 24 hours. Its departure time is not yet known.
