Airport welcomes F1 news
06.07.08
East Midlands Airport is gearing up to become one of the busiest airports in the country each July for the next 10 years, after it was announced on Friday that Donington Park - which is next to the airport - will host the British Grand Prix for 10 years from 2010. The airport says it is ready to welcome the celebrities and F1 fans.
A spokesman said: ‘This is great news for the airport and for the region. At the moment, it is hard to say exactly how many people will use the airport each year as a result of this. However, clearly there will be an increase in passengers because of the close proximity we have to Donington Park. We are looking forward to working with Donington Park as this will be mutually beneficial for both of us.’
The airport said it was already equipped to deal with celebrity clients – it has an executive lounge and private jet operators are on site, ready to deal with the high-flying clients from around the world. The airport also has an extensive freight operation, which will be needed as the cars and support equipment flies in.
