Over £400,000 has been given out to good causes in areas suffering from plane noise from jets flying to and from East Midlands Airport. The figures were revealed when the airport marked the 7th anniversary of its community fund, set up to compensate groups in towns and villages affected by plane noise.
Fines are collected from airlines when their flights breach the airport's noise guidelines, with the airport also contributing £50,000 a year to the fund. Since the fund was set up, more than 500 groups, including clubs, churches and schools, have benefited from grants totalling £438,739.
