East Midlands breaks passenger record
05.07.08
More than half a million people travelled via East Midlands Airport in May (yes May, the figures were only release yesterday) - an increase of 10.7% on the same time last year and a new record. It was also the 26th consecutive month of increasing passenger numbers at the Midlands hub.
A total of 534,690 passengers passed through the airport in May, the first month in the airport's history that it broke the half a million barrier. International scheduled passengers increased by 10.3%, domestic scheduled passengers increased by 16.6% and charter passengers grew by 9%.
Penny Coates, East Midlands Airport's managing director, said the figures were ‘remarkable’, adding: ‘This is evidence that passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands appreciate the convenience, comfort and ease that we offer to get their journey off to a great start.’
Around 5 million passengers will use the airport this year.
