Airport hotel puts down new roots at official opening
04.12.11
A Silver Birch from the National Forest was planted to mark the official opening of the new green hotel at East Midlands Airport and for the future enjoyment of guests from all over the world. Invited guests were at the new Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands Airport to watch Sophie Churchill, Chief Executive of the National Forest Company, plant the Silver Birch.
She said: ‘Opening a hotel is not something someone from the forestry industry does very often, but this hotel is a gateway to The National Forest and the development team has shown a very clear commitment to reducing its environmental impact - from the innovative new technologies that manage the hotel's day-to-day performance to the commitment to carbon offset the entire build. This is similar to our approach at The National Forest. so I was delighted to be invited to come along to help open the hotel.'
Daniel Keane, General Manager at the new Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport Hotel, said: ‘We have been astounded by the level of interest in the hotel both before and since opening. Business is booming; in our first full month our Meetings and Events revenue exceeded our expectations by more than 600%, and we welcomed over 5000 guests.'
‘This hotel has an extra touch of class and goes to a new level of quality for the region. We are luxurious but affordable, and that is proving a very attractive package for both business travellers and holidaymakers using the airport.'
