Thomsonfly plane makes emergency landing and then develops a fuel leak
01.09.07
A passenger plane with over 220 passengers on board made an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport yesterday after developing technical problems. Emergency services were called out to the runway, however the plane, which was heading for Corfu, landed safely at 18:00.
An airport spokeswoman said the Thomsonfly aircraft, which took off from Robin Hood Airport at 15:50, developed problems with a front wheel. The pilot of the Boeing 757-200 with 227 passengers on board radioed East Midlands Airport requesting emergency assistance shortly after it took off.
The plane circled the airport for over an hour before landing to burn off fuel. It landed safely, but then developed a small fuel leak as it taxied on the runway and fire crews foamed down the runway. This did not affect other flights at the airport.
It is unclear whether the passengers from the flight were transferred onto another aircraft or taken by coach to another airport.
